Fence post clamp: types, prices and assembly

Various accessories are used to install braided mesh or system fence panels, thanks to which your fence is rigid, stable and, most importantly, safe. One of the basic elements used to fix the nets are steel handles for metal posts, also called bands or clamps. In our article we present their types, prices and assembly technique.

Fence post band – what is it and what is it for?

Clamps for fences are small, steel hoops, applied to fence posts. These bands allow you to attach flat bars and tensioners to the tension wire of the fence mesh. They are also useful when installing side supports for corner and initial columns. Thanks to them, you can connect both elements without the need for welding.

In panel fences, clamps (handles) are most often installed on each post, 2 or 3 pieces, depending on the height of the fence. Their task is to keep the panels rigidly, in an upright position. Each holder has one or two screw holes, depending on whether it is designed for the starting posts, the corner and middle posts.

Handles for posts – types, division

On the market you will find different types of clamps for metal fence posts . These accessories are divided according to their purpose into:

• clamps for metal mesh fences,

• handles for fence panels.

Another division includes the shape of the clamps: they can be both round and rectangular or square, matched to the cross-section of the posts. These accessories differ in size – you can buy them both in options: 50x50 mm, 60x40 mm, 80x80 mm, as well as diameters: 42 mm, 48 mm, 60 mm.

Depending on the location of the fence posts, you choose the following for them: initial, through (middle) or corner clamps. Handles for fixing nets or fence panels can also be found in different colors. Most often they come in a uniform shade of black, green, anthracite, brown or graphite.

Clamp for round post: assembly technique

Round clamps are used for mounting fence nets on poles. These are accessories that do not require complicated assembly. You place on all posts, and then attach flat bars or tensioners to them. You tighten the clamp to the resistance using an ordinary bolt with a nut (for fixed fences, the so-called tear-off, anti-burglary nuts will work).

Before you permanently attach the clamp to the pole, be sure to check that it is at the same height as the clamps on the adjacent poles. Also keep the same spacing between the terminals on one post. For safety and aesthetic reasons, place the screw heads only on the outside of the fence.

How much does a round post clamp cost?

Before starting field work related to the construction of a fence, you are looking for cheap materials and assembly accessories. You will find them both in stationary stores and online wholesalers, run by manufacturers of the fencing industry. How much does a round fence clamp cost on average? This is an expense of about PLN 3 per piece.

Prices for metal clamps for posts are similar, regardless of the color scheme. The most expensive are non-standard clamps with diameters of fi 74 mm – their prices start from 4 to 5 PLN. You can also buy ready-made sets, which include: clamps, bolts, nuts and special PVC stabilizing washers. The cost of the set is about 4 PLN.

Prices of mounting brackets for fence profiles

Steel clamps for fence posts can be found both in stationary and online stores. How much do these handheld accessories cost? The average prices of a rectangular initial (or final) galvanized clamp, with a dimension of 60x40 mm, are currently from PLN 3.5 to PLN 4.5. Middle (through) handles 60x40 mm  cost about 4-5 PLN, depending on the manufacturer and the quality of the materials used.

How much do brackets for corner posts of panel fences cost? Their price is similar to the prices for through covers. Galvanized or galvanized and powder coated handle 60x40 mm is an expense of 3-5 PLN. Bands for square corner profiles 70x70 mm cost 6-7 PLN. When buying, pay attention to whether the clamp is available complete with a bolt, nut and spacer.

Fence panel post clamps – installation

For fixing fence panels on poles, rectangular or square metal handles are used. These handles are usually applied to the profiles from above or from the side (side connection refers to handles composed of two parts, connected with a screw). Remember that you put handles with one ear on the starting posts, and with two ears on the middle corner posts.

The installation of panels for posts itself does not require specialized skills or tools, you will need: a spirit level, a meter and a screw wrench. You set each panel span equally relative to the post, while maintaining the same distance from the foundation along the entire length of the fence. You connect the panel to the handle and tighten the screw tightly, to the resistance.
