What posts to choose for a grid of 150 cm?
Do you want to build a permanent fence or a temporary mesh fence on your property? Before you buy the necessary materials and start assembly work, you need to analyze many different issues, such as: the number and type of posts, whose task is to carry the weight of the entire fence. What posts to choose for a mesh fence with a standard height of 1.5 m? Read our article to learn more.
Popular types of fence posts
In many local stationary wholesalers and nationwide online stores of the fencing industry you will find many types of metal posts, designed for the construction of mesh fences on private and commercial plots. The bars are divided mainly due to:
-
purpose (posts for the construction of permanent or temporary fences – provisional, poles for mesh, system, panel fences),
-
shape (posts can be in the form of a round pipe, a profile with a square or rectangle cross-section),
-
material of execution (galvanized steel, pine stamps).
Fence posts differ in height, so you can adjust them to the specifics of your fence – high metal profiles or pipes are designed for concrete foundations poured and prefabricated, while low ones are usually used for concreting directly in the ground. Among the many fencing materials, you will also choose metal posts with the following wall thicknesses:
-
1.25 mm,
-
1.3 mm,
-
1.5 mm,
-
2 mm,
-
3 mm,

What posts are best for a mesh fence?
What should be the optimal height and width of the post for a fence of 150 cm? Choose pipes with a diameter (fi) of 42-48 mm or universal rectangular profiles in the size of 60x40 mm. Avoid non-standard posts, because they are more expensive and it will be more difficult for you to choose the right mounting accessories, clamps, caps, canopies for them. You will lose a lot of time and money on the search for unusual fencing materials, and their installation will not be easy.
Public posts for fences made of 150 cm are usually 2 m or 2.3 m high, and less often 2.5 m. The remaining surplus of 50-80 cm of the post is deposited in concrete (in the foundation or in the hole prepared for concreting). The upper part of the fence mesh should be at the height of the canopies of the posts or a few centimeters below, so the profile should not be higher than 2.3 m. The exception are fences built on unstable or deeply freezing ground – to stabilize them, use posts with a reserve of 1 m.
What post for a grid of 150 cm? Choose the right color
Your fence should be color-matched to neighboring buildings or green areas. So choose fence posts so that they visually form a whole with the grid and the environment. On the market you can easily buy posts for mesh fences in various, standard versions: green, black, gray, brown or anthracite.
Why is it worth using a ready-made stencil and universal colors of posts, offered by manufacturers? Such materials are primarily aesthetic and cheaper, on dark posts you can not see dirt, corrosion or stains. You can buy the posts in the same colors along with a grid and a set of mounting accessories.

Brackets – what posts to give for a mesh fence and how much?
Very important structural elements of mesh fences are side supports (brackets, braces), designed for corner posts (double-sided fastening) and initial posts (one-sided fastening). These are standard profiles or pipes of metal, galvanized, with a height of 2-2.5 m, a diameter of 42-48 mm and a thickness of 1.25-2 mm, installed obliquely to the columns with caps, concreted in the ground.
The task of the side supports is to stabilize the fence and transfer pressure forces, and their number and location should be adapted to the size of the plot. On a small area, for example: a plot on a rectangular plan of 20x30 m, you only need 10 brackets (2 at the entrance, 8 in the corners). If you have a long fence in which each of the sides is 50 m and more, consider installing additional supports on the center poles, preferably every 25 m.
What posts for forest mesh?
Do you want to fence the plot for the time of building the house? Or maybe you are planning to start a chicken farm or a dream vegetable garden and are looking for a proven way to protect your belongings from pest attacks? Choose a light fence made of wire forest mesh and choose the right posts for it – which ones? Ordinary pine stamps with a height of 2-2.5 m and a diameter of 10 cm are enough. Wood should be debarked and carefully dried.
Forest mesh works perfectly with pine piles, you can quickly attach it to them using cheap metal skobli. Remember to thoroughly impregnate the stamps before fixing in the ground (apply the preparation to about 1/3 of the height of the post). Do not buy stamps that are lying down, improperly stored, with visible cracks, bark beetle holes or mold – such material will quickly degrade naturally, so you will have to replace the posts after 2-3 seasons.
