Is it possible to fence an agricultural plot?

Large agricultural plots are rare, but in smaller areas it can be a necessity when arable land is close to forests and meadows, often visited by wild animals or unwanted visitors. In what situations the building law allows the possibility of fencing the field, how to threaten it and when chewing what materials – these questions are answered in our article.

Agricultural land – what are they?

In the light of the Act of 3 February 1995 on the protection of agricultural and forestry land, agricultural land is called all land checked in as agricultural land, as well as land under agricultural property and family plot gardens or botanical gardens.

Many detailed data and an analysis of whether agricultural parcels can be found in a given area, also includes a local zoning plan, available in the old town or municipality. Such a document very precisely defines the principles of designing the local landscape, including even the type and height of fences for both arable land and building or recreational plots.

Authorisation to fence an agricultural parcel

Polish law does not prohibit the erection of a fence around a private agricultural plot unless it exceeds 220 cm in height from the ground level and unless otherwise specified in the local plan. In case the owner wants to put the fence higher, he must report such intention to the local office. When perching a plot of barbed wire, it is also worth remembering that the minimum safe height at which it is found is 180 cm.

There are other situations when you need to apply for permission to erect a fence at the office or at the conservator of monuments. This applies to owners who have agricultural parcels forming part of rural park or other green areas entered in the register of monuments.

How to fence an agricultural plot?

Arable land usually covers large sewn slates of land, so cheap and durable materials such as forest mesh, electropaste or less often – wooden fence are used to fence them. Smaller agricultural parcels can also be surrounded by galvanised netting or system panelsif a shed, focal point or breeding of small animals such as chickens, ducks or geese is planned on the property.

The fence of an agricultural plot does not have to be openwork, although this is what you can meet most often. Many landowners, such as family plot gardens, choose to plant a fence with climbing plants: ivy, hops or vines, in order to shield the area from the neighborhood or passers-by. The downside of this is that most of these plants lose their leaves in autumn and for a significant part of the year it is impractical.

Shepherd's fence and arable field

Electric fences, also known as electropast, have been a popular and inexpensive way for many years to secure large agricultural plots where animals are raised or crops are exposed to frequent pest attacks. This is a relatively cheap option compared to forest or galvanized nets, but it will not protect the plot from smaller animals such as foxes, mares or beavers.

Such a shepherd effectively discourages wild animals from entering the area, but it is necessary to be careful that its tension and intensity do not pose a threat to life and health. Electric fences are set only on wooden stakes, the installation of which is very simple and fast. Such fences usually have an intensity of about 1000mJ and a voltage of not more than 6-8kV, however, many manufacturers offer them in higher parameters, especially for cattle and pigs.

Forest net for the construction of agricultural parcels

An excellent way to isolate arable land from intrusive pests, including mainly hares, is to use forest netting. It is cheap and easy to install, which is why many people choose it for the creation of fields, orchard or meadow. The mesh is very resistant to impact, pressure and corrosion because it has an external galvanized layer and thicker guide wires.

50 meter rolls of forest mesh can be purchased without leaving the house, from proven manufacturers, such as STEEL and online www.tanidrut.com. Depending on your needs, the net can be 150,160 or 200 cm highif the land is exposed to, among other things, attacks by larger animals, elk or deer. You can also select the eye density to achieve optimal protection against different animal species.

Wooden screens for all-star gardens

Agricultural land, such as family plot gardens, are usually small areas that will be used together by wooden screens. Wooden curtain panels are a good option when the plot is small and the hosts want the fence to decorate their gardens.

Wooden spans can take the form of a slat fence, bloom fence, Venetian or arch with openwork elements, which perfectly matchs the vegetation on the plot and creates an intimate space for recreation.
